10:51 am - I just stole me some DVD's!
Just found on Dealnews.com that Best Buy is having some really good DVD sales:

2 DVDs for $25 from this list.

5 DVDs for $40 from this list.

Naturally, I did one from each! I also noticed with the 5/$40 deal that if you go over 5, you still get the $8 price per DVD on all of them. I bet it's the same for the other deal too... You can save on shipping if you pick in instore pickup option. Goonies and Batman Begins were not available for pickup in Tallahassee, but you can split the load between shipping and pickup. Shipping's $1.79 per disc for standard ground.

Here's what I got.

2/$25: Corpse Bride, Batman Begins (both widescreen)

5/$40: LoTR: Return of the King, The Matrix: Revolutions, The Goonies, Beetlejuice, Friday (again, all widescreen).

Not bad... not bad at all.

1:12 pm - Hellooooooo LJ! (again)
Upon discovering that free accounts have 6 icons now (4 of which are currently filled), I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, I'll start trying to post here a little more. You see, I have my audience over on my myspace page, and that's fine for most of what I do... preferred even. I loves me a good audience. LJ, however, grants me a little more privacy and better allows me to keep a smaller, more intimate group of trusted folks.

So, that's it... I may start writing things in here, that I don't want 175 people (as of this posting) seeing. I want try to start writing my thoughts out a bit more, and that's not always easy for me, since I tend to be very, very private about certain aspects of myself and my life, despite my outward grandeur and winning personality. ;)

Well, I make no promises, but I'm going to give it a try and see what happens. Many of these posts will probably be friends-only, so get in while the gettin's good. Also, I may cross-post some of my myspace blogs from time to time.

For now, it's lunchtime, and I hunger...

10:08 am - Hello LJ!
It's been awhile... I've not been loyal. I've pretty much moved my entire operation to myspace. I have much more of an audience there. Sorry... I'll keep this journal open so that I can check up on my friends here though...

8:47 am - Devil horns!
Have to promote my friend's site:

Metal Geek

One guy, three personalities (shhh, you didn't hear that from me), all METAL!!!

On a completely different note... Should I spend the twenty damn dollars and upgrade my account? I feel that I have so many more icons to give... (Though I think I've been doing pretty good with the 3 I have.)

12:52 pm - Boo!
I'm so ready for Halloween that I can taste it! ...and it tastes like chicken. Haunted chicken!

I was scoping out the front of my house at lunch today, trying to get a plan for decorating in action. September is the planning stages, October is execution.

I'll keep you all informed.

1:26 am - Vocabulary Update
In a consortium consisting of my coworker, Randy, and myself, it has been unanimously decided that any and all queries or questions directed toward Google shall from this day forward be referred to as "Quoogles".

That is all.

2:54 pm - Disconnection... Withdrawel! What to do!?
That evil, evil hurricane Dennis has gone too far! It was bad enough that it had to pick on Pensacola so soon after Ivan came through, but this... this is just the last straw!

It seems that Dennis took it upon itself to knock out an AT&T fiber line, and with it, Comcast's broadband service for the entire Florida panhandle! It's been that way since yesterday afternoon and it's still down as of this posting! Oh, woe is me...

Fortunately, my connection from work is still up, so I can get this message out...

If things don't improve soon, they'll find [info]zeplum and I, shriveled, huddled in a corner with blank stares on our faces, mumbling binary under our breaths. "100110100101000101110010010"

The information *must* flow!

2:01 pm - Big word of the day
Listening to my coworkers chatter, I feel that I need to inform the Internet of this one issue:

abscond: to run away or escape (secretly); generally includes the taking something or someone else with you.

So, if someone ran off with one of your possessions, it was not "absconded", as many seem to say in error, but more correctly, it was "absconded with".

Get it right, folks!

9:50 am - It claps... so you don't have to.
Well, I think that I've just found the holy grail of guitar effects...

The Boss Hand Clapper

See, it's a device that claps for you, saving you the trouble of having to clap yourself. I can't even count all of the times that I've said to myself: "Gee, I sure wish I had a machine to do all of this bothersome clapping for me!" ...completely oblivious to the fact that Boss had already covered this area years ago.

Check out Tonefrenzy for more reviews and sound samples of new and vintage guitar effects. Though I doubt you find much of anything that can match the awesome magnitude that the BHC brings to the table.

Welcome to the future...

The future of the past!

9:37 pm - You got it backwards dude...
Any of you ever hear a song by a band, where the band name and song name seem to be backwards?

I just did. I was listening to the wonderful Internet radio station, SomaFM (Indie Pop Rocks channel, of course) and this came up:

Band name: Small Towns Burn A Little Slower

Song title: Churches and Hospitals

Do you see where things went wrong here?

Churches and Hospitals is a way better band name than Small Towns Burn A Little Slower, which is waaay too long.

Whereas "Small Towns Burn A Little Slower" is not a bad song title at all...

I'll keep you all posted if I come across any more of these.

12:32 am - Appreciation.
[info]zeplum, ever our greatest fan, has posted a wonderful review of my band's (Teams of Swedes) show last Thursday, complete with links to pictures that she took and sounds (of which can also be found on our website).

Not only does it fill us with great pride and appreciation when she posts such wonderful, and media-rich, things, but it also saves us the trouble of doing it ourselves! HAR! :p

Thanks K, for all you do for our little corner of the Tallahassee music scene! :)

4:40 pm - Teams of Swedes, Thursday!
I should probably break my LJ silence to announce that my band, Teams of Swedes, will be rockin' the Beta Bar on Thursday night. There will be three other bands that have the misfortune of going on after us, because once we bring the house down, the crowd ain't stand for anything else!

Recap: Teams of Swedes, Thursday, Beta Bar, 9:30pm, $5 ($6 for you youngins).

10:23 am - Ranty McRanty Pants - May '05 Edition
As a guy who fixes other peoples computers for a living (I support a fairly large state agency), I too am sometimes thrown back by the fear and unwillingness to learn that others have around computers. That a lot of people seem to regard them as magic box that does stuff, instead of thinking of them as a machine or tool, albeit a complex and versatile one.

The ones that truly draw ridicule from my colleagues and I are the people who like to pretend that they're experts, when in truth they've maybe heard a few buzzwords, and know how to do a few extra simple tasks beyond typing, surfing and checking email. Sure they can fool their fellow coworkers with all their fancy talk, but they almost invariably try to use these exact same tactics on the experts as if we wouldn't see right through them. If you don't know something, don't be afraid to admit it. Most people will respect that and be glad to help you out. I'm sure that this sort of things happen with all skilled professions, and it may just be my point of view, being is this particular industry, but this seems to be all the more prevalent in regard to computers. It may also be the result of the fact that computers are so integrated into our society these days and in use by many untrained people, unlike other professions which tend to have a more limited base of practice. I mean, you don't see too many people attempting surgery outside of trained medical professionals...

1:05 pm - We're there...
I should probably update from my last post and say that we're all moved in to the new place, with only a few minor decorative issues left to be locked down.

In unrelated news, I prefer to spell "grey" with an "e".

I'm going to have the place to myself this weekend, as [info]zeplum is away in Buffalo, NY. So please have a safe and fun trip, and don't break nothin' while you're there...

I, however, will be attending a raging rager of a party at [info]otherjerry's house tomorrow night in honor of both [info]short_shrift and [info]grassymeadows birthdays. If you know who I'm talking about in real life, and know how to get there or know how to get a hold of someone who can tell you how to get there, well then you really should be there...

That is all.
